Don't fall for Fake 'Verify Your Account' Message

If you receive an email prompting you to verify your webmail account with us that appears to come from Macalester College, it is a scam. This is a targeted spear-phishing attack, intended to fool you into clicking on links that look legitimate but will actually compromise your account. Don't do it.

  • There is no—all ITS communications will come from people you can find in the online directory. New students will get more information about our ITS Notices and Alerts blog in August.
  • You do not need to verify your Macalester Google Apps account.  Ever.
  • The language is stilted and pushes you to act quickly without thinking.

If you clicked on the link in this message, follow these steps immediately to reset your Macalester's account password:
  1. Go to Firefox works best.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Follow the prompts to reset your password.
Longer is stronger when it comes to passwords. Find out how to create strong passwords and passphrases.

Contact the ITS Help Desk at or 651-696-6525 for assistance.
