Google Apps: Comfortable, Cozy, Compact

In the New Look, Google introduced more white space and added settings that let you adjust exactly how much white space you see. Gmail automatically adjusts the amount or “density” of information on a page by choosing Comfortable, Cozy, Compact.

The “Display Density” setting affects how much space you see between labels, around inbox sections, and between individual messages in your inbox. In Gmail, Calendar or Docs, open the large gear menu and choose a different Display Density setting.

  1. Click the gear icon at the top corner of your inbox.
  2. Choose from Comfortable (least dense), Cozy, and Compact (densest)
If you don’t see an immediate change, it’s because your browser is currently smaller than permissible with the selected density. For additional assistance with this feature, contact the ITS Help Desk.
